I painted the first image in this series, “Mad As Hell”, with my eyes shut, the brush in my right hand as my left hand traced the outline of my face. A self-portrait I later came to admit, which had accessed a part of me I was scared for the world to see. As I sat with the painting and other women found pieces of their own story in it, I was inspired to create the “Many Faces of Womanhood”, of which we have many.
My wish is that each larger than life painting reminds you of our humanity, that you’re not alone, reflects our shared experiences, where we are on our journey individually and cumulatively.
I am woman, we are women, and as the song goes … “I am woman, hear me roar, I am too big to ignore” …just like the faces I paint.
